Mental Health Crisis

We are in a mental health crisis, and mental health education is key to prevention and care. 

Millions of people are affected by mental illness each year. Across the country, many people like you work, perform, create, compete, laugh, love, and inspire daily.

• 21% of U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2020 (52.9 million people). This represents 1 in 5 adults.

• 5.6% of U.S. adults experienced severe mental illness in 2020 (14.2 million people). This represents 1 in 20 adults.

• 16.5% of U.S. youth aged 6-17 experienced a mental health disorder in 2016 (7.7 million people)

• 6.7% of U.S. adults experienced a co-occurring substance use disorder, and men in 2020 (17 million people)

Truth and Life Empowerment Community Ministries Inc. is working to develop a partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disabilities regarding the "Healthy Minds Philly Program."

 

This program will consist of a two-hour self-paced webinar program, leading to a five and half hour instructor-led class using technology. This program will cover how to assist someone who is struggling with mental health and or addiction challenges.

 

Upon completion of the course, individuals will be nationally certified as a, "Mental Health First Aider, for three years.

Mental Health First Aid Education is vital in specific communities that don't have access to mental health resources. Our goal is to provide education and counseling resources to those in need in the future.
