Disabled Navy veteran and suicide-attempt survivor Rev. Dr. Christian Frazier brings resilience, mentorship and youth mental wellness to the 7th Annual Black Mental Wellness Conference.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE · Tampa, Florida · October 27, 2026

Rev. Dr. Christian Frazier to speak on Black youth mental health at the 2026 Black Mental Wellness Conference

After serving in the U.S. Navy, surviving a suicide attempt, losing sight in one eye and undergoing multiple surgeries, Rev. Dr. Christian Frazier found renewed purpose in helping others navigate adversity.

On November 6, 2026, Frazier will join the featured presenters at the 7th Annual Black Mental Wellness Conference, themed Healing Across Generations, at the Silver Spring Civic Building in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. His session, “Understanding and Supporting Black Youth,” will explore the impact of stigma, intergenerational beliefs, family communication and trusted adults on youth well-being.

The urgency is clear. According to the CDC's 2025 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 34.3% of Black high school students reported persistent sadness or hopelessness. Among Black students who reported those feelings, only 15.4% received counseling or therapy.

“Purpose doesn’t pause for pain.”

Rev. Dr. Christian Frazier, Happiness Triggers

Frazier is a disabled Gulf War-era Navy veteran, a nationally certified Mental Health First Aid instructor for teen, youth and adult programs, and a former youth case manager who continues to mentor, coach and speak with students. His community service has included NAMI Hillsborough and leadership roles within the Hillsborough Zero Suicide Alliance.

Through a partnership with Empowered Minds, he is also supporting monthly wellness workshops and mentoring for elementary, middle and high school students in Hillsborough County, Florida. The initiative underscores a broader call for more volunteer mentors, community partners and financial support to reach young people before challenges escalate.

Although the conference centers Black mental wellness, the conversations and practical skills are relevant to educators, parents, pastors, coaches, youth leaders and anyone serving young people from diverse backgrounds.

The speaker's expanded website offers mental wellness resources, mindfulness practices for schools, and printable family workbooks to help adults turn conversations into action.
